Mr Quyen - Santiago. Posted 03/11/2026
A Ghanaian dealer can import Santiago ASA/PVC tile sheets through Tema in one 40 ft container of about 5,000 m, with colours, profiles and accessories mixed. The steps are free samples, a written quotation, about 5 days of production, and a document set of commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin issued in Vietnam and a quality certificate. Every 1,000 m² of roof needs about 1,042 running metres of sheet and 4,000 – 5,000 screw sets with ASA caps.

Who buys tile-look roofing in Ghana, and why stock it?
The tile sheet suits buildings that people look at and sit under: church halls, school blocks, community halls, event pavilions and family houses. These roofs are large, they cover crowds during heavy rain, and the committees that pay for them usually want a finished look rather than bare metal. In a church hall on a wet Sunday, rain noise about 80% lower than on metal (Santiago test) is something the whole congregation hears. In a classroom, 6 – 8 °C less heat than under bare metal sheet is something the pupils feel by midday.
For an importer the product has a second point in its favour. There is no metal in the sheet, so it does not rust in a store in Tema or on a roof in Takoradi, and the colour sits in an ASA top layer that showed no colour change after 2,000 hours of artificial UV.
What documents come with a container to Tema?

| Written quotation or proforma invoice | Santiago | Lengths, colours, accessories and terms, agreed before payment |
| Commercial invoice | Santiago | Customs value and description, HS code 3925.90.00 |
| Packing list | Santiago | Number of sheets per length and colour, accessories, packages |
| Bill of lading | Shipping line or forwarder | Needed to collect the container at Tema |
| Certificate of origin | Issued in Vietnam | Shows Vietnamese origin; Ghana has no trade agreement preference with Vietnam for this product |
| Quality certificate (CQ) | Santiago, with every lot | Links the lot to Santiago's quality checks |
| ISO 9001:2015 certificate ICI-23087.D and Quatest test results | Santiago, on request | For tenders, schools and church building committees |
Duty, port charges and any product registration in Ghana are questions for your clearing agent. Ask before the ship sails what he needs from us, and send that list with your order, so the papers are made out correctly the first time instead of being corrected while the container waits at the port.
Why should the first step be samples?
A Ghanaian dealer usually sells to people who have never handled an ASA/PVC tile sheet, and a sample answers most of their questions. Santiago sends samples free; the buyer pays the courier. Show the cut edge, where four layers are visible: ASA on top, virgin PVC, a PVC core and a milky-white base. Let a building committee see the colours in daylight, held against their own wall. The standard colours are dark grey, red, blue, orange and chocolate; green, white and purple are made to order. Measure the thickness, 2.5 or 3.0 mm, in front of them. Then set the colours for your container from what your buyers picked, not from a catalogue page.

How should I mix a container for churches, schools, halls and houses?
One 40 ft container takes about 5,000 m of sheet, roughly 4,800 m² of roof once lapped (5,000 × 0.96). Colours, profiles and accessories can be mixed in it. Halls and churches take long sheets because their roof faces are long; houses take shorter ones. Every length is a whole number of 219 mm tile steps. One example split:
| Buyer group | Roof type | Example sheet length | Running metres | Colours in this example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Church and community halls | Wide gable roof over one open room | 7.008 m (32 steps) | 1,750 m | Red and chocolate |
| School blocks | Long single-storey classroom rows | 5.913 m (27 steps) | 1,250 m | Dark grey and red |
| Pavilions and event shelters | Open frame, hip or gable | 4.599 m (21 steps) | 750 m | Chocolate |
| Family houses | Bungalows and two-storey houses | 4.161 m and 5.256 m (19 and 24 steps) | 1,250 m | Dark grey, red and blue |
| Total | All groups | Mixed lengths | 5,000 m | About 4,800 m² of roof |
This is an example, not a rule. If you already hold a church project or a school tender, put its cut list into the container first and fill the rest with house lengths. Santiago confirms the loading plan before production starts.
Worked example: accessories per 1,000 m² of roof
Accessories are easy to under-order, and a roof that waits for ridge caps is a roof the contractor cannot hand over. The quantities follow from the roof shapes, so this example uses four school blocks with gable roofs. Each block has 22 sheets per face (a covered ridge of 22 × 0.96 = 21.12 m) and sheets of 5.913 m.
| Item | Working | Quantity for about 1,000 m² |
|---|---|---|
| Sheets | 4 blocks × 22 sheets × 2 faces | 176 sheets of 5.913 m, about 1,041 running metres |
| Roof area | 4 × 21.12 m × 5.913 m × 2 | about 999 m² |
| Screw sets with ASA caps | 1,000 m² × 4 – 5 per m² | 4,000 – 5,000 sets |
| Ridge cap | 4 ridges × 21.12 m | about 84.5 m |
| Ridge terminals | 2 per ridge | 8 |
| Eave sealing tile | 2 eaves × 21.12 m × 4 blocks | about 169 m |
| Wall flashing | Only where a roof meets a higher wall | Measure on the drawings |
| Hip ridge, three-way and four-way pieces | Only on hip roofs | Count from the drawings |
Two points come out of this table. Ridge cap and eave pieces follow the length of the roof, not its area, so a hall with long faces needs less ridge per square metre than a row of small houses with short faces. And the screw sets should be ordered at the full 4 – 5 per m²: the 10-year warranty applies when the roof is installed as Santiago recommends, and that includes the screw count.

How do I sell tile sheets to Ghanaian contractors?
Contractors buy what they know how to fix. Give them the rules on paper and the Santiago installation videos on their phones: purlins less than 700 mm apart (440 or 660 mm, one under each tile step foot), the top purlin 15 – 18 cm below the ridge, slope 20 – 45%, 6 mm pre-drilled holes, 70 mm screws through the top of the wave with ASA caps, one wave of side lap, and never a screw in the valley. Santiago supplies the sheets and accessories and sends the videos; it does not install, so the contractor is the installer your reputation rests on.
Offer to turn a contractor's drawing into a cut list: sheets per face (ridge ÷ 0.96 m), sheet length (face ÷ 0.219 m, rounded up to whole steps), screws (area × 4 – 5) and ridge pieces. A contractor who gets a full list with the quotation can price his job the same day.

For the building committee, put the warranty and test figures on one page: 10 years for sheets 2.5 mm and thicker installed as recommended, colour rated 30 years, real service life 25 – 30 years, bending strength above 1,000 N, and a CQ with every lot.
How are PVC roof tiles packed for shipping to West Africa?
Mr Quyen explains in English how Santiago loads orange tile sheets for export. The sheets slide down a ramp from the stack into the container, and workers in Santiago uniforms stack them inside.

What warehouse stock is behind export and OEM orders?

What load demonstration can a dealer show customers?
The 26-second short shows a Santiago truck rolling across two blue sheets on the yard, one tile-profile and one corrugated. Treat it as a demonstration: on a roof, purlins still go less than 700 mm apart.

What can a dealer show customers from the factory and the roof?
Mr Quyen stands among stacks of brown tile sheets in the Santiago factory, then walks with a colleague along a finished grey tile roof near the gutter. Installers carry a grey tile sheet into place, and the WhatsApp number is shown at the end.
