ASA/PVC roof tiles give a clay-tile look in one large sheet: 1.05 m wide, 0.96 m cover and a 219 mm tile step, 2.5 – 3.0 mm thick. They are far lighter than clay or concrete tiles, so the roof frame can be lighter, and the joints are covered by matching ridge, hip, eave and wall pieces. They suit villas, resorts and guesthouses in Luang Prabang, Vientiane and Vang Vieng.

Why use plastic tiles instead of clay?
- Lighter: one sheet replaces many clay tiles and needs a lighter frame.
- Fewer joints: large sheets leave fewer gaps for wind-driven rain.
- Colour: the ASA surface is rated for 30 years of colour fastness.
- Quieter and cooler than metal sheets: about 80% less rain noise and 6 – 8 °C cooler underneath.
Which colours suit a resort?
Standard colours are red, orange, chocolate, blue and dark grey. Red and orange match the traditional look of many Lao buildings; chocolate and dark grey suit modern villas. Ask for a physical sample, because screen colours are not exact.

What does the roof frame need?
Purlins for the tiles are set 44 or 66 cm apart, two or three tile steps. The top purlin sits 15 – 20 cm below the ridge and the bottom purlin less than 20 cm from the eave. Tiles are cut in multiples of 219 mm, so send the slope lengths and Santiago rounds them to the nearest step.
