On coastal homes in the Visayas, Mindanao and other island areas, salt settles in the laps and around screws of GI and pre-painted roofs, stays damp and rusts the steel from underneath. A roof with no steel in it, ASA/PVC sheets or tiles fixed with stainless screws, removes that problem.
Why do seaside roofs rust from the inside?
Sea wind deposits salt; night dew turns it into a thin brine. Under the laps and screw heads it never dries or gets rinsed by rain, so corrosion starts where you cannot see it.

- ASA/PVC sheets or roof tiles, 2.5 – 3.0 mm.
- 304 stainless screws with rubber washers and ASA caps.
- Extra screws along eaves, corners and gables for typhoon winds.
- Painted or non-metal purlins; Santiago FRP purlins do not rust.
Will the colour fade in strong sun?
The ASA top layer protects the colour; Santiago rates colour fastness at 30 years. Lighter colours also keep the house cooler.
