Mr Quyen - Santiago. Posted 03/11/2026

Yes. Plastic roof tiles for sheds, cabins and casitas come as ASA/PVC tile-effect sheets 41.3 in (1.05 m) wide that cover about 3.15 ft (0.96 m) each, are cut to length in 8.6 in (219 mm) tile steps and weigh about 1.1 lb per sq ft (5.4 kg/m²). A 10 x 12 ft shed with a gable roof takes 8 sheets, about 61 – 76 screw sets and a ridge cap about 12 ft 7 in long.

Can you get plastic roof tiles for a shed or cabin?

You can. On small buildings, plastic roof tiles usually come as large sheets molded with rows of tiles, not as loose tiles laid one at a time. Santiago makes them in Vietnam from ASA and PVC, co-extruded as four layers with no glue: an ASA top layer that blocks UV and holds the color, a virgin PVC layer, a PVC core and a milky-white PVC base. They come 2.5 or 3.0 mm thick (about 0.10 or 0.12 in), and 2.5 mm is the minimum for a roof.

From the yard, a shed roofed with these sheets reads as a tile roof. Up close, it goes on like any sheet roof: two people carry each sheet up, and it screws straight onto purlins. That suits garden sheds, cabins, backyard studios, pool houses and casitas next to a house that already has a Spanish or Mission-style tile roof.

Why put a tile sheet on a shed instead of metal?

  • Heat: by Santiago's figures, about 6 – 8 °C (about 11 – 14 °F) less heat under the roof than under bare metal sheet, which you feel in a studio or workshop used in July
  • Noise: rain noise about 80% lower than on metal
  • Rust: the sheet contains no metal, so sprinklers, pool splash and coastal air do not rust it
  • Look: the roof can match the house in dark grey, red, blue, orange or chocolate, and green, white and purple are made to order

The color sits in the ASA layer, which showed no color change after 2,000 hours of artificial UV and is rated for 30 years. Real service life is 25 – 30 years, and the warranty is 10 years for 2.5 mm and thicker when the roof is installed as Santiago recommends.

If the cabin or casita will be a room people live or sleep in, talk to your building department and any HOA before you design the roof around these sheets. Rules for habitable buildings and accessory dwelling units differ from one city to the next.

What sizes are the sheets in feet and inches?

Santiago cuts every sheet to the length you order, in whole tile steps of 219 mm (8.6 in). You choose the number of steps and the factory cuts to it. Lengths that fit typical shed and cabin slopes:

  • 9 steps: 1,971 mm, 6 ft 5½ in
  • 10 steps: 2,190 mm, 7 ft 2¼ in
  • 12 steps: 2,628 mm, 8 ft 7½ in
  • 14 steps: 3,066 mm, 10 ft ¾ in
  • 16 steps: 3,504 mm, 11 ft 6 in

Across the roof, each sheet is 41.3 in (1,050 mm) wide and covers 37.8 in, about 3.15 ft (960 mm), once it laps one wave over the next sheet. Divide the eave length by 3.15 ft and round up to get the number of sheets per slope.

How do you frame and screw a tile-sheet shed roof?

  1. Set the pitch between 20% and 45%, which is about 2.4:12 to 5.4:12. A 4:12 or 5:12 shed roof falls inside that range.
  2. Run purlins across the rafters at 440 mm (17.3 in) or 660 mm (26 in), so that a purlin sits under the foot of a tile step. Never go wider than 700 mm (27.5 in).
  3. Put the top purlin 15 – 18 cm (6 – 7 in) below the ridge.
  4. Pre-drill 6 mm (about 1/4 in) holes through the top of the wave, directly over a purlin.
  5. Fix with 70 mm (2¾ in) screws and ASA caps, 4 – 5 sets per m², which is about 37 – 46 sets per 100 sq ft. Never screw in the valley.
  6. Lap each sheet one wave over the one before.
  7. Finish with the ridge cap, ridge terminals at the gable ends and eave sealing tiles. Where a lean-to roof meets a house wall, use vertical wall flashing.

Santiago does not install. It supplies the sheets, ridge pieces and ASA screw caps in the same color and sends installation videos to the builder.

How much material does a 10 x 12 ft shed roof take?

Example: a 10 x 12 ft shed with a gable roof, ridge along the 12 ft side, pitch 5:12. Each slope takes a sheet 9 tile steps long, 6 ft 5½ in from ridge to eave including the overhang. Four sheets cover 4 × 3.15 ft, about 12 ft 7 in along the eave, which covers the 12 ft wall with a few inches of overhang at each gable.

How do you order tile sheets for sheds from Vietnam?

Santiago has shipped roofing to the US since 2025. The minimum order is one 40 ft container, about 5,000 m (16,400 ft) of sheet. In tile sheet, that is about 4,800 m², roughly 51,700 sq ft of roof, or around 300 sheds the size of the example above. A single shed builder rarely needs that much, so the usual route is a distributor, or several builders filling one container together.

One container can mix colors, sheet lengths, corrugated profiles and accessories: red tile sheets for one shed model and dark grey for another, with ridge pieces and screw caps in the matching colors. Production takes about 5 days after the order is confirmed. The documents use HS code 3925.90.00. Vietnam has no free trade agreement preference with the US, so check the duty rate with your customs broker before you order. Prices are quoted per order in writing.

Start with a sample: Santiago sends free samples and the buyer pays the courier. Every lot ships with a quality certificate (CQ), and Santiago works under ISO 9001:2015 certificate ICI-23087.D with Quatest test results for its sheets.

What do plastic roof tiles look like on a finished building?

Frequently asked questions

Can you get plastic roof tiles for a shed?

Yes. ASA/PVC tile-effect sheets 41.3 in wide cover about 3.15 ft each and are cut to length in 8.6 in tile steps, so a shed roof goes on as a few large sheets instead of hundreds of loose tiles.

What are plastic roof tile effect sheets?

They are roof sheets molded with rows of Spanish-style tiles. Santiago's are 2.5 or 3.0 mm ASA/PVC, weigh about 1.1 lb per sq ft and come with matching ridge, hip, terminal and eave pieces.

How far apart should purlins be for a plastic tile shed roof?

440 mm (17.3 in) or 660 mm (26 in), so that one purlin sits under the foot of a tile step, and never more than 700 mm (27.5 in).

How many screws does a shed roof need?

4 – 5 screw sets per m², about 37 – 46 per 100 sq ft. A 10 x 12 ft gable shed with 163 sq ft of roof needs about 61 – 76 sets with ASA caps.

Can I buy just enough tile sheet for one shed?

Santiago ships by the 40 ft container, about 5,000 m of sheet. For a single shed, buy through a distributor or share a container with other builders.
